The Giants Causeway, Dark Hedges, Belfast!

This weekend we had a huge adventure over in Northern Ireland, which is the United Kingdom. They use Pounds in the UK for money, not Euros, so we had to get some Pounds. We started our drive to our house in Northern Ireland Friday night. We started our drive at about 5:30 PM, and went to our house. We got there, and we found out that it was the wrong house that we were at. We drove about 15 minutes to our actual house, and it was an old flax mill turned into a house, so it had the wheel that the water turned still on the side of the house.

The house was really nice inside. The bedrooms were on the first floor, and the kitchen was on the second floor, which was really cool! We went to get some food from a nearby market when we got there Friday night. I had soup for dinner, and we all went to bed. Saturday we got up, and we started our drive to Portstewart, which was right on the Northern coast of Ireland, right on the water. At one part, we were able to drive on the actual beach on Portstewart. We got out, and walked up to the water, but it was very cold, and the waves were very big! It reminded me of Lake Michigan.

We went to Dunluce castle first. It was a castle that was right on the coast, and it was old and in ruins, and you could climb on it, and it was really cool! Here are some pictures of it!

After we visited Dunluce castle, we headed over to the Giants Causeway. We parked in the parking lot, and walked down the path to the Causeway. It was a very beautiful walk down to the Causeway, we were behind huge mountains, and right on the water. We walked down and got to the Cuaseway, and it was amazing. Me and Levi walked on it, and it was really fun to get next to the water, because the waves were splashing against it, and all of the stones were hexagon shaped! It was so cool.

We then walked on past the Giants Causeway to the Organ that was in the side of the mountain. It is not actually an Organ, but there are a series of hexagonal prisms that stretch on the side of the mountain and it looks like a huge organ. We got a selfie with it.

Organ side view into mountain.

After we saw that, Levi and Oma went back the way that we came, but Mama and I took the harder path. The other way to get back to the parking lot was to climb over the mountain. There was a path that climbed the side of it, and it had a ton of steep stairs, and we climbed to the top of it, and went over it and back down to the parking lot. We met Levi and Oma on the other side. It was a really awesome thing to see!

Saturday we also tried to go to a rope bridge, but it was closed, but we were able to visit the Dark Hedges. The Dark Hedges were used in filming Game of Thrones, and it is this huge road with trees that hang down on the road, so it is like a huge path that is creepy with trees, and here is what it looks like.

Sunday, we traveled to Belfast. There, we went to a Titanic attraction. In Belfast is where the Titanic set off from so there was a lot of history that we learned from there. We had a ride that described how hard it was to build the Titanic, and how kids started working on it at age 14, and how hammering could result in loss of hearing. We saw what some of the rooms looked like. We got a picture in front of the huge sign and building (that looks like an iceberg).

We also went to Victoria Square, where they were having a christmas event. There were a ton of stands that were selling goods and foods and things like that. I got a burger, but they had a ton of German food also. We bought some bath bombs, candles, gifts for other people, and a ton of awesome other things. They had Churros also!

After we were done visiting all of the food stands, we went back to the car and started our drive back to Dublin. We got back home at about 6:00 PM. I cleaned the bathrooms and got ready for social awareness day at St. Andrews tomorrow. My form is going to meet at 4T tomorrow. I think I will walk down to the Spire tomorrow since I am so close.
